50th Anniversary Celebrated!

Anniversary festivities commenced on September 11, 2005, with a 1950's-themed Sunday.  We began the morning with a re-creation of the first worship service held on Sunday, September 11, 1955.  The original worship was held in the parsonage, located at the corner of Iliff and Patton Court.  Pastor Jim dressed in robes similar to the ones used by Pastor Hansen on that date.

Following worship, attendees enjoyed a table of memorabilia on their way to the Fellowship Hall for a potluck luncheon.  Dessert included 1950's style root beer floats.  The afternoon concluded with everyone participating in "Christ the King Trivia."

Christ the King Memory Bulletin Board were on display in the narthex.  September featured the 1950's.  October featured the 1960's.  November featured the 1970's.  December is featuring the 1980's.
On Sunday, October 2, 2005, we welcomed former Pastor John and Dorothy Refsell, who assisted with communion and shared some of his memories with us.  Pastor Refsell was at CTK from 1961-1968.  That Sunday we replicated the service from September 17, 1961, which was Pastor Refsell's installation service at Christ the King.  A special coffee fellowship followed.

On Christ the King Sunday, November 20, 2005, we welcomed Pastor Karen Weissenbuehler as our presiding minister.  We enjoyed "Ride On, King Jesus", sung by Matt Weissenbuehler.  During coffee fellowship, Matt Weissenbuehler, Mary (Weissenbuehler) Giles and her daughter, Anna Giles entertained us with the past ice cream social music from "Oliver" and "Tom Sawyer."  Karen accompanied them.

On Sunday, January 8, 2006, we welcomed Pastor Bill and his wife Doris Hanson.  Pastor Bill was Christ the King minister from 1959-1961.  We also re-created an Epiphany service held on January 6, 1991.
On Sunday, January 15, 2006, Pastor Linda Henke was our special guest.  She preached the sermon and helped serve communion.  In Fellowship Hall following worship, Pastor Linda and her husband Phil greeted the congregation.
On Sunday, February 5, 2006, Pastor Jim Norlie visited Christ the King, preached the sermon and assisted with communion.  Pastor Norlie is currently the campus pastor at Oregon State Univ. in Corvallis, Oregon.
On Sunday, March 26, 2006, our special guests were Pastor Arlyn and Ruth Saathoff.  Pastor Arlyn preached the sermon and assisted with communion.
