Serving God and the Community

We are active in the following agencies in the Denver Metro area. If you interested in helping, contact Jan from the Church in Society Committee.

Community Ministry of SW Denver, located at 1755 S. Zuni, is supported by 25 area churches, both financially and with donations of food and clothing.  Place your uncut Sunday newspaper coupons in the collection box above the coat rack and food donations in the grocery cart near the Fellowship Hall.

Thank you to everyone who brought Christmas gifts for the Community Ministry children.  CTK donated 30 gifts.  Community Ministry was able to give out 433 gifts!

We are now collecting winter coats, gloves and hats for the upcoming cold weather.  CM will take anything from lightweight jackets and hoodies to heavy coats for both adults and children.  You may leave these in the basket outside of Fellowship Hall.

On November 19, twenty members of CTK helped distribute Thanksgiving meals to the needy through the Daddy Bruce charity.

Thank you to everyone who walked for the Community Ministry Annual 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Bear Creek Park.  CTK donated over $900.

During September, we collected new children's socks and underwear.
Your generous response to our Community Ministry drive is so appreciated.
You donated:
63 pairs of underwear and 84 pairs of socks for boys, and
65 pairs of underwear and 38 pairs of socks for girls
That's a total of 250 items!

  • Food Item for February is cereal and canned soup.  Thank you to everyone who donated soup for "Souper Bowl" Sunday on February 5.  We collected 182 cans of soup for Community Ministry!

Planting the Community Garden

Our 2012 Lenten Offering emphasis will be the ELCA MALARIA CAMPAIGN

The ELCA Malaria Campaign enables our church to join with African companion churches in the global effort to prevent, treat and contain malaria by 2015.  The ELCA Malaria Campaign has a $15 million goal.

Will you help? Malaria prevention efforts include emphases on:  Health Care, Education, Advocacy, and Help providing Malaria containment supplies to the affected communities.

Instead of our usual Fall ELCA World Hunger offering, we now ask that you join the fight this Lenten season against Malaria. Make your check payable to Christ the King Lutheran Church , with ELCA Malaria Campaign in the memo line. Let's help fight malaria and save lives.

Change Jars will also be on the Fellowship tables for you to place your cash donations during Sunday Fellowship and our Lenten Soup Suppers.

ELCA’s Buck-a-Chick campaign has returned for Lent.  For just a buck you can add a baby chick to someone’s Easter basket.  Purchase and decorate a paper chick on Sunday Mornings during Lent.  Decorated chicks will be displayed on the bulletin board outside of Fellowship Hall.  Last year we purchased 55 chicks!

The Church in Society committee sold ELCA alternative gifts from GOD’S GLOBAL BARNYARD during the Advent season.  We collected $1200, and we were able to purchase three alpacas, seven pigs, five goats, six chicks, seven ducks, one mosquito net and one set of children's textbooks!

During
Advent 2011, our Soup Supper offering collection benefited "Seeds of Hope" Companion Synod Fund.  This is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of our partnership with synods in Madagascar.
We donated $378 to this project.

Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Arizona is a school that needs vans and computers.  By saving Campbell's soup labels and Education Box tops, these can be purchased.  The collection box is above the coat rack.

CTK Quilters make quilts and lap robes for Lutheran World Relief, Ebenezer Care Center in Brush, CO, the Linus Project, Florence Crittenton Homes,  and Community Ministry. They also make baptismal quilts for each child and baby quilts. They meet on the third Friday of each month from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm in the former office on South Osceola. Bring a snack lunch and stay as long as you like.

The Heifer Project helps Third World countries help themselves with donations of animals, fish and seeds.  For an alternative gift idea for Christmas, shares can be purchased at our booth.

Urban Servant Corps brings volunteers into a communal setting for one year of urban volunteer experience at local inner city agencies.

ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Relief finds generous support through the gifts of individuals like yourself, with the highest percentage of gifts actually getting to those in need.

Numerous local service agencies benefit from CTK gifts in-kind and offerings.

King Soopers Gift Cards
Effective immediately, King Soopers paper gift coupons are being replaced with plastic Gift Cards.  They will no longer give money back.  The Gift Card, with remaining balance, will be returned to you for use on your next purchase.  Gift Cards are available in $25 and $50 amounts.  These gift cards can only be used at King Soopers.

You may purchase the Gift Cards from the church office during the week or from Anna Lisa Reynolds on Sundays.  Checks should be made out to Christ the King Lutheran Church.  Write "King Soopers" in the "for" line of your check.  By using the gift cards, 5% of your grocery purchase is a donation to Christ the King.  We pay $4,750 for a packet of gift cards worth $5,000.  Therefore, $250 remains as profit for the church.
